Affleck takes hat-trick for North County - 13/08/14

Tim Affleck DESPITE Australian Overseas Player Tim Affleck's heroics, Terenure inflicted a shock defeat on North County on Saturday.

Batting first, Affleck top scored for the Balrothery side with 71 from 106 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes) as North County managed 214 in 49.2 overs.

In reply, former Irish international Dave Langford-Smith blasted Terenure to victory, hitting a 68-ball unbeaten 99 that included 12 fours and 5 sixes.

The victory appeared highly unlikely, after Affleck (3-28) took a hat-trick including the top-order wickets of Hogan, Moreton and Dickeson to reduce Terenure to 64-4, which later became 144-7 chasing a Duckworth-Lewis adjusted target of 204.

Nevertheless, Langford-Smith and Hoey (16*) produced a 60-run 8th wicket stand taking bottom-placed Terenure to victory in 39.3 overs.

The shock defeat leaves North County in a relegation dogfight with Railway Union to ensure top flight status.

Despite North County's lowly position on the Leinster League Division 1 table, Affleck has enjoyed a strong season personally. The North Sydney all-rounder lies third and eighth on run (596 runs at 45.85) and wicket (24 wickets at 21.08) aggregates respectively which includes all matches played in the LCU Division 1, Senior Cup RSA and Bob Kerr Irish Cup.
