ASHTEAD is very pleased to announce the exciting signing of Ben McDermott for the 2017 season.

The former Australian Under-19 gloveman, who recently signed with the Surrey Championship club, celebrated with an incredible, match-winning century for Big Bash League’s Hobart Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes chased down the highest score in BBL history to beat Melbourne Renegades at Etihad Stadium. Their last-ball victory was largely thanks to McDermott, who struck one of the greatest centuries in BBL history.

His spellbinding knock of 114 from 52 balls (his century coming from 47 balls) – the first Hurricane to post a BBL century and second-highest score in BBL history (behind Luke Wright’s 117 for the Stars in 2012), kept their BBL6 campaign alive.

Incidentally, the 22-year-old son of Craig stepped into Kumar Sangakkara's shoes in the previous match (scoring 31 from 21 balls against the Thunder), before his explosive century against the Renegades.

On the signing, a club spokesman stated, “Ben will be a great all round addition to the club bringing his experiences and knowledge from the professional game. We look forward to making Ben welcome for the start of the 2017 campaign and know that he will be a great asset for the club”.
