BDCA Champions Flixton sign Dolphins Prenelan Subrayen - 05/12/14

Prenelan Subrayen FLIXTON are delighted to announce the signing of South African Under-19s and Dolphins star Prenelan Subrayen.

Subrayen (21) is one of South Africa’s brightest spin bowling prospects. Despite his tender age, the off-spinner has already played 26 matches for the South African Under-19s and over 50 domestic matches across the three formats, to include 31 franchise games for the Dolphins.

In one his most recent matches for the Dolphins in this summer’s Ram Slam T20, it’s fair to say Subrayen had the measure of Lion’s overseas Chris Gayle. Not only did his take his wicket (bowled) on his way to figures of 1-25 (4), but he also smashed the Windies legend for 15 runs (6, 6, 4, 1), before bombing Tsotsobe for a maximum en-route to a 13-ball 26, evidencing his own explosive power with bat-in-hand.

Subrayen has long been regarded as a potential Protea, courtesy of his exploits for the Under-19s. He boasts arguably the best bowling stats for a South African age-group player in history with 41 wickets at 13.66 over 24 Youth ODI’s. He was the leading bowler on show during South Africa’s tour to England in July 2011 (14 wickets at 16.14) and took 7 wickets at just 14.42 at the Under-19 World Cup in August 2012 helping Quinton de Kock’s South African side to third-place.

Prior to his selection for South Africa Under-19s, Subrayen had made his List-A debut for KwaZulu-Natal against Border in November 2010. He had to wait another year till his first-class debut for KZN against the same opposition, then a further season before his next first-class match, this time for the Dolphins against the Warriors in the Sunfoil Series in October 2012.

In December 2012, Cricket South Africa produced Subrayen with a scare, as he was identified as one of two bowlers with a suspect action. Nevertheless, after a period of rehabilitation, he was re-tested with his sufficiently modified action and was re-instated to bowl in first-class cricket. He hasn’t looked back since and, at the point of writing is the Dolphins front-line spinner in the shorter formats.

The talented bowling all-rounder will play for last season's Bolton and District Association League champions and will do his utmost to ensure Flixton retain their crown in 2015.
