Blackheath sign County ace Michael Thornely - 24/11/14

Michael Thornely BLACKHEATH have pulled off a coup with the signing of former Sussex and Leicestershire batsman Michael Thornely.

Thornely (27), who was released from Leicestershire at the end of last season boasts an impressive County record. Over 98 matches, he has scored 2,690 runs at 24.02 across all formats alongside 15 wickets with his useful medium pace.

The top-order batsman began his career with Sussex, where he spent three seasons before two seasons (2013-14) with Leicestershire.

Despite three domestic hundreds and an undefeated double (200 from 146 balls) against England Under-19's, Thornley is now without a County contract and has subsequently signed with Kent Premier League club Blackheath for the 2015 season.

He will be hoping to impress in an attempt to break back into the County system again in future.

For now though, he has focussed his attention on his second stint with Auckland club Cornwall having returned after his record-breaking MVP exploits last season.
