Chesham sign cracker in Aussie Ace Babula - 26/12/14

Dan BabulaCHESHAM have pulled off a coup with the signing of Aussie quick Dan Babula ahead of their 2015 season.

Babula (30) is a right-arm seamer who boasts a tremendous record in both Australian grade cricket and his maiden stint abroad last summer.

Babula started out in Sydney Grade cricket for Campbelltown-Camden in 2007/08, before spending five seasons in Melbourne for Shane Warne’s St Kilda Cricket Club.

During this period, the opening bowler took 131 wickets at 20.07, including a best season haul of 32 wickets at 16.19 in 2009/10.

Babula moved back to Sydney in 2013/14 and enjoyed a barnstorming season for Manly-Warringah, finishing 7th on the Sydney first-grade wicket charts taking 49 poles at 15.60.

Fresh from his grade exploits, Babula set sail for his first UK stint with Devon Premier League club Sidmouth in 2014. Unsurprisingly, he excelled, topping the Premier wicket tally with 46 scalps – 10 more than his nearest rival, all with an average of 12.93.

His efforts helped Sidmouth run away with the Premier League title with three games to spare.

Seeking pastures new, the Aussie wicket-taking machine has signed with Chesham who will be hoping their star recruit can help them regain their Home Counties Premier status after relegation to the Thames Valley League last summer.
