Cockermouth snap up Aussie Valeri - 31/03/16

COCKERMOUTH have signed promising dual Passport holding all-rounder Theo Valeria for their upcoming league season.

Valeri (23) is an explosive left-hand opening batsman playing a combination of first and second grade for Western District and University of Canberra in the ACT Premier Cricket Competition.

Hailing from Country NSW, with whom he represented at Under-19 level, Valeri has played for WDUOC since the 2012/13 season. He has played 60 matches, scored 1,714 runs at 30.70 including three centuries (and one double).

Following a promising maiden season with his Canberra club (170 runs at 28.33), Valeri enjoyed an outstanding 2013/14 scoring 682 runs at 34.10. His second-half of this season was quite spectacular scoring two fifties (93, 52) and two centuries (113, 160) in the second grade.

In 2014/15, he played predominantly first grade cricket, scoring two fifties (55, 58). However, due to work commitments he was pushed to the lower grades post Christmas where, unsurprisingly, he excelled. He scored 214 runs at 35.67 in second grade, and belted a quite remarkable double hundred (2011*) in his only third grade innings.

This summer, again due to work commitments, he’s been in and out of the first grade side, nevertheless has impressed in the top flight scoring 139 runs at 34.75.

Whilst known for his batting, Valeri is a useful medium pacer who’s a regular bowler in grade cricket. In 2015/16 he has taken 14 wickets at 8.50 including best bowling figures of 5-13.

Holder of a British Passport, Valeri is heading to England for his maiden stint abroad in 2016. He is set to play for Cockermouth, who play in the strong North Lancs and Cumbria Cricket League.
