Congresbury return for Rutgers - 06/03/15

Corey RutgersCONGRESBURY will see the return of Australian overseas star Corey Rutgers for their 2015 WEPL campaign.

Rutgers (25) struck 546 runs at 34.75 alongside 11 wickets at 19 with the ball for Congresbury in the Bristol and NS Division of the West of England Premier League.

Last summer was Rutgers' second on Northern shores, folloing his maiden stint back in 2012 for Cheshire County League club Hyde (463 runs at 27.24).

In his homeland, Rutgers has been one of the stand-out batsmen in the Western Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association in recent years.

He has played over 100 first grade matches in the WASTCA representing Ocean Ridge (2,488 runs at 40.08) and more recently Tuart Hill (610 runs at 46.92 in 2012/13).

His success at club level has culminated with selection for West Pilbara in Country Week and also the Australian County XI.

Rutgers boasts a raft of achievements, most notably winning Minor Premierships and captaining both clubs and personally featuring in the top five run scorers in the WASTCA for the last four years.

He has also won the Under-23s “Player of the Year” over the past two, whilst also excelling during several WA Regional Tournaments.

Courtesy of his exploits in the WEPL last summer, Congresbury have subsequently re-signed the Australian batsman for a second stint in 2015.
