Cornwall star signs for Ireland's Phoenix - 27/02/15

Sam Anderson BowlingLEINSTER League club Phoenix have lured Cornwall all-rounder Sam Anderson to Irish shores this summer.

Anderson (26) is an experience, proven batting all-rounder who has represented the Auckland Under-23 and Auckland A sides and, for the past few seasons has skippered the Cornwall Premier Men’s side in Auckland’s Premier Club Competition.

He has been a consistent performer at Premier Club level, where he’s currently into his eighth season.

Historically a middle-order batsman, he has been pushed to the top of the order in recent years, particularly in the shorter formats where his explosive hitting has been influential for Cornwall.

His brisk medium pace has developed extensively over the years, since his 18 wickets at 16.39 in 2010/11. In recent seasons, Anderson has taken 25 wickets at 25.88 (2012/13) and 45 wickets at 15.80, including 28 at 12.61 in the Two-Day Competition in 2013/14.

Anderson has also spent three seasons playing league cricket in England for West Hallam White Rose in the Derbyshire County League (2007), Little Stoke in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League (2011) and Sidmouth in the Devon Premier League (2012).

Off the field, Anderson has a degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Auckland and enjoys coaching utilising his coaching qualification.

Anderson has signed as Player/Coach for the Leinster League Division 2 club for their 2015 campaign.
