Defending Champions Dosti sign Dolphins star Frylinck - 10/03/16

REIGNING champions Dosti Amsterdam have signed Dolphins all-rounder Robbie Frylinck for their Topklasse title defence.

Frylinck (31) is an explosive South African all-rounder playing for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Sunfoil Dolphins. At his peak, the quick bowling, hard-hitting all-rounder was seen by many as a natural successor to Proteas legend Lance Klusener.

A veteran of 212 domestic matches, his career spans over a decade, dating back to his List-A debut in 2004. Frylinck is part of an exclusive club that has scored over 3,000 runs and taken 300 wickets across the three formats in South African domestic cricket.

Regarded as a late developer, he didn’t feature for Natal at age-group level, but his performances in club cricket drew the attention of KZN’s Academy.

He made his List-A debut in October 2004, then first-class debut a year later, taking figures of 6-94. He was included in the South African National Academy Squad in 2006.

Despite appearing for KZN and the Dolphins in 16 first-class matches in 2007/08, he was excluded from their contracted players list for 2008/09 and subsequently moved to Surrey under the Kolpak ruling in 2008.

After 5 second team matches, he was picked to play a Pro40 match against Northants where he impressed with figures of 3-52.

Frylinck returned to South Africa and joined the Lions Franchise despite having no contract with the union. He played just two Pro20 games in the 2008/09 season but his performances for the amateur team earned him a contract for the following season.

In 2009/10, he starred, topping the Pro20 wicket charts (14 wickets at 16.21) and was nominated for Cricket South Africa’s Pro20 “Player of the Year”.

A year later, Frylinck was signed by the Delhi Daredevils for their 2011 Indian Premier League campaign, but failed to feature in the tournament.

Nevertheless, he enjoyed a productive 2011/12 season in South Africa, taking 33 wickets and has since, been a key performer for the Dolphins and KZN to include 26 wickets at 15.30 at first-class level in 2013/14 and 12 wickets at 19.25 to finish amongst the leading wicket-takers in the RamSlam T20 Competition in 2014/15.

For KZN, in 23 matches he has scored 845 runs at 25.60 and taken 81 wickets at 21.59 at first-class level. He has a further 343 runs at 16.33 and 51 wickets at 29.78 for the Dolphins in Franchise cricket.

Having not returned to Northern shores since the second of his 2-year stint in 2008, Frylinck has recently decided to return for a third season this year.

He has agreed to play for Dosti, who are keen to retain their Topklasse title in 2016.
