Diss snap up kiwi Fletcher - 22/02/15

Pierce FletcherNORFOLK ALLIANCE club Diss and District have signed Auckland Under-19's all-rounder Pierce Fletcher.

Pierce Fletcher (19) is an exciting young prospect who represented Auckland during the 2014 National Provincial Under-19 Tournament, taking 6 wickets at 20.16.

A strong right-arm swing bowler and powerful middle-lower order batsman, Fletcher’s selection was based on prominent performances for his Sacred Heart College 1st XI (72 wickets at 21.50 and 784 runs at 19.60) and Auckland Eastern Districts age-group exploits (2006-13).

Kenyan-born Fletcher made his College 1st XI debut aged 15, in a school of 1,200 boys. Originally an out-and-out seamer, he transformed into an opening batsman for a season, but last summer plied his trade as a bowling all-rounder. His transition reaped rewards, both in-terms of performance and representative selection (to include the Auckland Secondary Schools side in 2012/13.

Fletcher is a promising cricketer, a strong leader who displays a great passion for the game. A consummate team-man, tremendous work ethic and highly dedicated player – he is someone eager to break into professional cricket in future.

A highly regarded player and person, Fletcher is now playing for the Auckland University Cricket Club in the Premier Men’s Grade Competition in Auckland after his maiden stint abroad for Poloc in the Cricket Scotland League - Western First Division in 2014 (15 wickets at 13.13).

The talented cricketer is seeking a strong summer abroad to push for higher honours in future.
