ESCA Champions' RHC recruit Aussie duo - 01/11/14

Jake Marnie ROYAL HIGH CORSTORPHINE have recruited talented Australian's Jake Marnie and Daniel Payne for their 2015 season.

RHC finished champions of the ESCA Championship last summer, so have signed the Aussie duo ahead of their CSL Eastern Premier campaign in 2015.

Jake Marnie (21) will be RHC's named professional and currently opens the batting for Camberwell Magpies Premier 2nds in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition.

The left-hander moved to the Magpies this season following several productive seasons for rival club Hawthorn-Monash. Marnie opened the batting for the Monash first-grade alongside Will Tavare (Gloucestershire); in a side that’s also included David Alleyne (Middlesex, Notts) and Robert Keogh (Northants).

In 2011/12 and 2013/14, he won the Vice Chancellors Trophy as the clubs “Most Outstanding Under-21 Player”. In 2012/13, he was the “Club Champion” runner-up, finishing second on the first-grade run charts (326 runs at 20.38) behind Alleyne. Last summer, he went one better, topping the club’s first-grade aggregates with 418 runs at 19.

Daniel Payne (21) will join Marnie at RHC as the overseas amateur. The right-hand batsman has played over 100 matches for Adelaide Cricket Club in the South Australian Grade Competition.

A former South Australian age-group representative, Payne made his grade debut as a 15-year-old in 2008/09 and has since scored 1,832 runs at 19.08 including a highest score of 109 in the B Grade.

Payne has featured in 32 A Grade matches across the formats, playing alongside notable first-class players from the UK and Australia including Jason Gillespie, Ben Cox, Ajmal Shahzad, Ant Botha, Dan Redfern and Sam Raphael.

He has spent two summers playing abroad for Sparsholt in the Southern Premier League. In 2011, he notched up 401 runs at 33.41 then returned in 2013 to top the Division 2 run charts hitting 748 runs at 49.86. During his two season stint, he also took 24 wickets with his useful medium pace.

The Aussie pair are eager to excel for RHC during their Premiership campaign in 2015.
