Fives & Heronians clamber for Kanishka - 17/02/15

Gamindu KanishkaFIVES & HERONIANS have secured the sought after Sri Lankan Gamindu Kanishka for their Essex League campaign.

Kanishka (28) is a batting all-rounder who set Sri Lankan domestic cricket alight during the 2011/12 summer. After a four year absence, Kanishka returned to first-class cricket for Saracens Sports Club with a bang.

He belted five centuries, including hundreds in four consecutive first-class matches. The former Sri Lankan Under-15 player finished fourth on the Tier B run charts in 2011/12 racking up 823 runs at 58.78.

His absence was somewhat of a surprise, considering he showed immense promise at first-class level from the outset, hitting 178 runs at 35.60 in his opening three matches, not to mention figures of 6-34 (19) in his third match vs. Panadura Sports Club.

Kanishka has since played three seasons in the UK (Budleigh Salterton in 2012, followed by two season with Kent League club The Mote) and is currently in Australia playing in Victoria's Diamond Valley Cricket Association (Money Shield) for Greensborough.

The talented Sri Lankan all-rounder is now eager to impress for his new club in the Essex League Division 2 this summer.
