Hugo Nel joins Hampshire's Hungerford - 05/12/14

Hugo Nel HAMPSHIRE County League club Hungerford have signed South African Hugo Nel for their 2015 season.

Nel (25) is a batting all-rounder who has recently returned to cricket following a nasty eye infection resulting in a cornea transplant back in 2011.

He now features across the top two elevens for Pretoria High School Old Boy’s (PHSOB) in the Northerns Premier League in South Africa.

A former Northerns Under-17 squad member, Nel represented the PHSOB 1st XI between 2006/07 and 2009/10.

He played league cricket for Acle, in the Premier Division of the Norfolk Alliance in 2010 (461 runs at 35.46 alongside 10 wickets) before suffering from his eye infection.

Save for a handful of games for PHSOB with restricted vision, Nel spent 3 years in cricket wilderness before returning to the UK in 2014 for Clacton-on-Sea in the Two Counties Cricket League.

He enjoyed a successful summer hitting 742 runs at 49.47 – topping the division four run charts, alongside 17 wickets at 18.06 and he's aspiring to even bigger results for Hungerford in 2015.
