Monton return for Warriors' Jonker - 20/01/16

MONTON & WEASTE have re-signed South African run machine Christiaan Jonker for their inaugural Pennine campaign.

Jonker (28) is an explosive batsman for the Warriors who boasts impressive numbers on the domestic circuit with almost 3,500 first-class runs averaging neigh on 40.

The 2012/13 season was Jonker's first in Franchise cricket where he topped the Warriors run charts in the T20 format and excelled in one-day cricket averaging 42.40, including a match-winning 84 in the Momentum Cup.

During the same season he was also the third leading run-scorer in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge (311 runs at 38.87), culminating with inclusion for the South African Emerging Players squad for the quadrangular tournament in Namibia in April 2013.

Last summer he starred in the shorter formats averaging 38 (List-A) and 25.50 (T20) formats respectively.

Jonker has also been prolific in league cricket over 6 seasons and in 2014 he helped Monton and Weaste win the Championship division of the Central Lancashire League.

He was one of the CLL stand-out's hitting 1,253 runs at 78.31 with a league best 222 alongside taking 32 wickets at 10.69.

Following a year's absence from league cricket, Jonker is set for his Monton return following the news of outgoing professional Ashar Zaid's signing with Essex.
