Lichfield lock in Port Elizabeth prospect - 11/03/16

Wade van Zyl2

PROMOTED Lichfield have signed Wade van Zyl for their Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League campaign in 2016.

Van Zyl (18) is playing for the oldest and one of the most prestigious cricket clubs in South Africa, Port Elizabeth Cricket Club. A genuine all-rounder, he into his second season for the club, following a highly decorated schools career at Pearson High School.

He played 81 1st XI matches for the school, in which he vice-captained and took out the best all-rounder award in his final year.

Due to politics, he didn’t get the call to play for Free State Under-19s at Coke Week, but instead broke into the PECC 1st XI after an explosive 182* for the second team.

He has since become an integral member of PE’s top flight – opening the bowling and batting lower-middle order.

Van Zyl will play his maiden stint in the UK this summer, for newly promoted Lichfield who will begin their campaign in the BDPCL.
