Linden Park sign Kent League chart topper - 23/11/14

Matthew Smit LINDEN PARK have signed promising South African batsman Matthew Smit ahead of their 2015 Kent League campaign.

Smit (19) enjoyed a barnstorming maiden stint abroad in 2015, topping the Kent Cricket League run charts with 1,157 runs at 96.42 including 6 centuries.

Playing for OD CUACO in division four of the Kent League, Smit struck his runs with a strike rate of 112.7 and boasted a highest score of 167*. He hit an incredible 1,875 runs across all formats for the club, including a total of 9 hundreds and 4 fifties.

In his native South Africa, Smit plays in the Gauteng Premier League for Jeppe Quandam in Johannesburg’s top flight club competition.

He had previously represented his St Benedict’s College 1st XI (2011-13) where he become the highest capped played in the school (85) and broke a raft of school records.

Smit also represented Gauteng Under-17’s at the CSA Under-17s Cricket Week in December 2012 alongside South African Under-19 stars Keith Dudgeon and Marques Ackerman. 

Linden Park are hoping Smit can replicate his performances in division one of the Kent League next season in their push for promotion to the ECB Premier League.
