North Down announce double signing - 13/12/16

Ruhan Pretorius-Sep-2015

NORTH DOWN are delighted to announce the signing of Ruhan Pretorius and Carl Robinson for the 2017 season.

The club have signed South African Ruhan Pretorious as their Overseas Professional with Zimbabwean Carl Robinson as Overseas Amateur, courtesy of his Irish Passport.

Pretorius is a familiar name in NCU circles following his successful spell with Waringstown in 2015. He opens the bowling for KwaZulu-Natal Inland and bats middle-order, albeit he has proved in Premier League cricket both home and abroad that he is equally at home in the top-order.

Last summer, Pretorius helped his Birmingham League club Fordhouses to promotion, smashing 490 runs at 44.55 and taking 38 wickets at 12.55. This followed his influential 2015 season for the villager's NCU league and Irish cup double (705 runs at 64.09 and 23 wickets at 23.26). During the latter, he single-handedly knocked out 2013 winners Clontarf with a quite sensational 49-ball unbeaten 101. His innings hit the headlines courtesy of his 6 sixes in an over whilst his second fifty came in just 14 balls.

19-year-old Robinson is a leg-spinner and right-hand batsman currently playing in Australia. He was part of the Zimbabwe training squad for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2016 and is a graduate of the prestigious Peterhouse Boys’ School in Zimbabwe.

In 2014/15, he took 49 wickets at 13.45 and scored 693 runs at 36.47 for Peterhouse against the best schools in Zimbabwe and a few in South Africa and the trend continued during the 2015/16 season, culminating with provincial and national age-group selection.

He spent the 2016 English season playing for Congresbury in the Bristol and District Cricket Association and excelled, hitting a highest score of 166 an innings that included an incredible 17 sixes, amongst a season tally of 435 runs at 43.50 in addition to 24 wickets at 19.25.

The club welcome them both to the North Down ranks and look forward to their arrival in April.
