Orbost's Ashby Balderton bound - 31/03/15

Jordan AshbyBALDERTON have snapped up in-form Aussie seamer Jordan Ashby for their South Notts League campaign.

Ashby (21) is a right-arm seamer who hit the headlines in November 2014 by taking all 10 wickets in an A Grade match in County Victoria’s Bairnsdale Cricket Association.

Playing for Orbost, his figures of 10-30 from 17.3 consecutive overs single-handedly rolled ladder leaders Wy Yung for 64.

In doing so, he became the first Orbost Cricket Club player in history, and the first in more than two decades in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association competition, to claim an A Grade 10-wicket innings haul.

His skipper said his young medium pace bowled the "perfect opening spell".

“I set a field, asked him to bowl outside off / top of off and he did it perfectly, and got the reward," Price said. “The majority of the wickets came caught behind the wicket or bowled with the Wy Yung batsmen pushing and nudging at Ashby's deliveries”.

In just his second season with Orbost, Ashby's stocks rose dramatically and he finished tied fourth on the BCA A Grade wicket-tally. His 34 victims have come at a cost of only 12.18, with a wicket every 27.62 balls and impressive economy of 2.65 per over.

Given his success, Ashby is now keen to replicate his success abroad and has subsequently signed to play in the top flight of the South Nottinghamshire League for Balderton this summer.
