Preston pen promising Powick - 22/02/16

Justin Powick-2

PRESTON have secured the services of Victorian grade batsman Justin Powick for their Hertfordshire League campaign.

Powick (22) is a top notch batting prospect who has spent the past four seasons plying his trade in Victorian Premier Cricket for Northcote.

Since joining the club in 2012/13 he has played 64 matches, scored 1,689 runs all with an average of 26.39. He has reached fifty on 9 occasions, converting 3 into centuries, 1 of which into a double (202*).

Powick joined the club in 2012/13, progressed swiftly through the grades, earning a first grade debut in December 2012. A month later, he scored his maiden first grade century, an undefeated 104* against Camberwell Magpies.

The following season he played the majority of the summer in the top flight, but couldn’t replicate his debut season, averaging 14.06 in first grade and was subsequently dropped to second grade.

Nevertheless, eager to regain his spot in the 1st XI, Powick impressed in second grade in 2014/15, hitting 362 runs at 45.25 which included a magnificent double century (202* from 266 balls) against Dandenong. He was left unbeaten when Northcote declared 351/9 after 84 overs at the crease.

Powick returned to first grade in the current 2015/16 season but things haven’t clicked for the young batsman, averaging 9.22 over 9 innings.

Once again though, following demotion he has impressed, hitting another century in second grade, this time 102 against Ringwood in his last match (Feb 2016).

The talented youngster has shown glimpses of his undoubted potential and is a player more than capable of achieving higher honours.

In a view to continuing his development, he has signed to play in England this season for Hertfordshire League club Preston. Much is expected of the Northcote batsman in what will be his maiden stint abroad in 2016.
