Young, who recently and quite controversially lost his Blackcaps keeping spot once again reminded national selectors of his quality. His 104 off 123-balls helped Canterbury post 334 and a strong position in their match against the Wellington Firebirds - a side featuring no less than seven internationals and attack including Andy McKay, Mark Gillespie, Jeetan Patel and Luke Woodcock. Young has been prolific on the domestic circuit in recent years. In 2008/09, he was amongst the leading run-scorers in first-class cricket and Auckland's leading batsman with 557 runs at 50.63. He showed his consistency the following season, racking up another 574 runs at 52.18 and a move south to join the Wizards, combined with a further 534 domestic runs at 44.50 paved the way to a Blackcaps call-up in January 2011 against Pakistan. He boasts almost 6,000 runs at domestic level across the three formats, including 4,050 runs at 31.15 with 7 hundreds at first-class level (2,094 runs at 53 since 2007/08). Young is eager to return to the national fold, but for the time being will continue to churn out domestic runs and hopes a return to UK league cricket in 2012, will help re-selection.
