Record-breaker Jacques seeks UK return - 02/10/14

Jacques Viljoen JACQUES VILJOEN is seeking a UK return in 2015 after his record-breaking exploits in Hertfordshire this season.

The 19-year-old South African batting all-rounder starred in the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League this season. Playing for Northchurch as their 2nd XI overseas player, the South African broke a whole host of league and club records in what was a magnificent maiden stint abroad.

Playing in Division 7, he churned out the most runs in a single season (1,060) with the second highest average (88.33). He scored the most hundreds (6) and struck the highest league score (184). He set the highest percentage of team runs (41%) and most boundaries in a single season – hitting 206 fours and 37 sixes.

Viljoen also broke numerous Northchurch records to include most 2nd XI wickets in 2014 (31 at 21.25), most runs across all formats (1,252), highest average (69.55), most centuries (6), highest percentage of team runs (39%), highest strike-rate (123) and most boundaries – 230 fours and 42 sixes. He also finished third on the wicket charts (33 at 22.03).

Despite the lowly standard, Viljoen excelled and has been touted for higher honours. It’s anticipated that he’s more than capable of playing and performing at a much higher league standard, perhaps even at ECB Premier League level.

With this in mind, the talented all-rounder who is now back in South Africa playing Premier League cricket for Pretoria Police Cricket Club, is now seeking a UK return in 2015 and, to a higher standard to test his ability.
