Ripley recruit South African Speedster - 17/02/15

Wayde DamonSOUTH AFRICAN quick bowler Wayde Damon has signed with Surrey County League club Ripley for 2015.

Damon (25) is a genuine speedster playing for the star-studded Irene Villagers Cricket Club in the Northerns Premier League in Pretoria.

Playing in arguably the strongest Premier League in the country, Damon has acquitted himself very well in recent years, since his return from a string of minor injuries.

In 2011, through the assistance of bowling coach Johan Muller, Damon returned to Premier cricket with a strong, re-modelled action.

He has been gradually working through the gears, hovering in the late 120’s (kph), but is driven to return to top pace, which has seen him hit 143kph.

Damon, who has represented South Africa Under-19s in Action (Indoor) cricket, is regarded as the quickest bowler on the Indoor circuit and, at full tilt, ranks amongst the quickest in the Northerns Premier League.

In 2012, Damon was selected to play for the Northern’s ‘B’ team against Easterns.

The following summer, he picked up 17 wickets at 15.29 in the Premier League during his debut season for Irene Villagers, having moved from Centurion Cavaliers the previous season.

He is now opening the bowling for Irene Villagers and hopes to achieve higher honours in future.

In a view to breaking back into provincial cricket, Damon has set his sights on dominating the Surrey County League for Ripley during the upcoming summer.
