SHADWELL have signed spin bowling prospect Thomas Meyrick ahead of their 2016 Wetherby Cricket League Campaign.

Meyrick (21) has progressed through the Canterbury age-groups and, last summer, was selected for the Canterbury A side.

An off-spinner and capable middle-lower order batsman, Meyrick has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years.

Courtesy of his exploits for Mid Canterbury at both age-group and senior level in the national Hawke Cup competition, he was awarded a scholarship to attend Lincoln University in Christchurch.

He subsequently joined Premier club side Marist Harewood, before moving to current club St Albans in the 2015/16 season.

Meyrick is now actively pushing towards first-class honours for the Canterbury Wizards and, in a view to continuing his development, he spent the 2015 season plying his trade for Wisbech Town in Tucker Gardner Division 1 of the Cambs and Hunts Premier League.

He enjoyed a productive season taking 32 wickets at 18.50 alongside 425 runs at 26.56.

He will now spend his 2016 summer in the UK for Shadwell in the Wetherby Cricket League's top flight.
