South African star signs for Terenure - 13/01/17

Givon Christian

TERENURE have signed South African run-machine Givon Christian for their 2017 Leinster League campaign.

Christian (24) plays club cricket in Cape Town for United CC - a side that regularly features numerous first-class players including Mujahid Behardien (WP), Wesheeam Keraan (WP), Yaseen Vallie (Cape Cobras) and South African Test spinner Dane Piedt.

The prolific batsman represented Western Province in 7 domestic matches (5 first-class, 2 List-A) back in 2012. Since losing his place for WP, the former first-class opening bat has churned runs at home and particularly abroad.

He has enjoyed prolific overseas stints with Glendermott (2013: North West Cricket Union - 679 runs at 52.23), Old Actonians (2014-15: Middlesex Championship - 2,776 runs at 79.31 and 75 wickets at 18.56) and Davenham (2016: Cheshire County League - 722 runs at 45.13 and 30 wickets at 18.47).

Christian was set to return to his Cheshire club in 2017, but an immigration crack-down across the country has prevented his return. Davenham's unfortunate loss is Terenure's gain, and the South African star will be eager to impress this summer.
