Sparta 1888 return for Trent McGrath - 30/03/15

Trent McGrathSPARTA 1888 have re-signed kiwi star Trent McGrath for a second Hoofdklasse campaign this summer.

McGrath (27) is a batting all-rounder who set the Taranaki Cricket Premier Competition alight in 2013/13. He broke the provincial record for centuries scored in a Premier season. His 4 centuries, including a highest score of 148 as he churned out 794 runs at 49.62.

Not content with his run scoring spree, he also picked up 21 wickets at 13.76 with his useful medium pace. His exploits have been rewarded with selection for the Taranaki Provincial Squad.

McGrath commenced his senior cricket career as a 16-year-old in the Taranaki Premier Competition in 2004/0 and relocated to Hamilton to study where he represented the Under-19s before making the Hamilton Hawke Cup senior squad.

In 2009, he was named in the New Zealand Universities side, which is McGrath’s cricketing highlight to date.

Over the past three years, McGrath has played cricket abroad, with two stints in England, followed by last summer in Holland.

In 2012, he played for Grampound Road in the Cornwall Premier League with success (374 runs at 37.4 and 23 wickets at 20.35.

He returned the following year, striking a ton (118*) for Prestatyn in only his second Liverpool League match, before having to return home due to the passing of a family member.

Last summer, he excelled in Holland for Sparta 1888, finishing second on the Hoofdklasse run charts with 489 runs at 44.45.
