STEYNING have snapped up South African seamer Munowar Samsodien for their Sussex League campaign.

Samsodien (29) is a stand-out opening bowler from South Africa. Over the past three seasons, the veteran seamer has excelled, finishing inside the top ten wicket-takers in Cape Town's Premier Competition, the Western Province Cricket Association (1A).

Playing for Primrose CC, last summer he took an incredible 66 wickets at 10.67 including notable match figures of 9-29 (11.2-6-25-7 and 3-2-4-2) vs Glamorgan, 7-24 (8.2-4-10-4 and 10-5-14-3) vs Yorkshire, 7-127 (22-6-46-4 and 20-5-81-3) vs Kuilsriver, 6-54 (18-10-15-2 and 12-2-39-4) vs Bishop Lavis and 5-55 (13.5-4-20-5 and 10-0-35-0) v Green Point.

This season followed two successful summers taking 40 plus wickets, which have culminated with Western Province first-class inclusion, albeit has yet to feature.

A Cricket South Africa Level 1 coach, Munowar has also played one season in England back in 2012. After starting the season with Ashford in Surrey, he moved on to Bromsgrove CC in the Birmingham First Division for the remainder of the summer.

Having spent the last summer on the fringe of the Western Province squad Munowar is now eager to break into the first-class fold and has targeted a strong season abroad for Steyning in 2016 to press for higher honours.
