Strabane sign Faisal Iqbal

Faisal_Iqbal Strabane Cricket Club has announced the signing of former Pakistan Test star Faisal Iqbal as their Pro for 2012.

Iqbal (30) boasts an outstanding pedigree, with 44 outings for Pakistan and nearly 16,000 across international and domestic levels. He played 26 Tests, with his last cap in January 2010 during Pakistan's tour to Australia.

He has starred in domestic cricket this season with 1,013 runs at 53.31 to date, including 5 centuries - 2 in his last two matches for Sind in Pakistan's Pentagular Cup. His tally of 9,842 runs at 40.33 with 21 hundreds ranks him amongst the leading batsman in Pakistan and someone who remains in contention for national re-selection.

Strabane's new pro will need to be at the top of his game mind you to emulate the success of former pro Jonathan Beukes who belted 5,219 runs in his 5 seasons with the North West Cricket Union Club.

A club spokesperson stated ""Jonno was brilliant for us and was a real class act when at the top of his form so I'm disappointed that he won't be coming back. Obviously Faisal has a proven International track record so we're also looking forward to what he will bring to the club and hopeful that he can help us challenge for honours again this summer".
