'Swaine sign Lions' slayer Waqas Maqsood - 02/12/18

Waqas Maqsood

Fresh from his exploits against England Lions, Hoylandswaine have swooped to sign Pakistani star Waqas Maqsood.

Maqsood (31) has been on fire recently following his T20 international debut against New Zealand early February. Over the past week, he has starred for Pakistan A against the England Lions taking figures of 4-34, 2-46 and 5-32 today.

The left-arm seamer was picked to play for Pakistan, following a string of impressive domestic performances. He produced figures of 2-21 on debut, following his wicket-taking exploits for the ‘A’ side in Dubai against the Australians (2-66 in their first-class match) and New Zealand A (figures of 2-7, 1-20 and 2-17 in their 3 T20s).

A late bloomer, Maqsood was rewarded with national selection after topping the Pakistan Cup One-Day wicket charts (14 wickets at 15.07) in 2018. He has enjoyed success with the white ball, but likewise the red, in Pakistan’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, since his debut in 2011/12. He has taken 230 plus wickets at 23 with 10 five wicket hauls and best bowling figures of 9-32.

Maqsood has been a consistent performer in the QeA Trophy over the years, with best season tallies coming in 2012/13 (25 wickets at 19.16), 2014/15 (50 wickets at 18.78), 2015/16 (36 wickets at 20.55), 2016/17 (32 wickets at 23.12) and 2017/18 (33 wickets at 17.06).

The WAPDA star has also enjoyed success in UK league cricket, dominating for both East Bierley (Bradford League – 2013) and Delph & Dobcross (Drakes Huddersfield League – 2018).

Given his success in recent years, both home and abroad, rival Drakes club Hoylandswaine have moved swiftly to sign the Pakistani star for their 2019 campaign.
