Ticknall sign Blues' Rookie Harry Conway - 02/03/15

Harry ConwayTICKNALL have signed New South Wales Blues' Rookie Harry Conway for their Derbyshire Premier League campaign.

Conway (22) is a tall fast bowler from the Northern District Club in Sydney. The towering 2-metre quick is into his second year as a New South Wales Blues “Rookie”, after a strong showing in 20113/14.

Despite not being able to break into the senior side, Conway performed well in Grade cricket, taking 33 wickets at an average of 19.79, although injury limited his selection in the NSW Futures League side to one match, where he picked up 2-30 against Victoria.

Conway’s progression into the NSW set-up was courtesy of his success for the State Under-19s, which culminated with national selection. He played 8 Youth ODI’s for Australia, including a solitary match at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2012. During this match, Conway took figures of 3-15 including a hat-trick against Nepal – clean bowling 3 of the top 4 batsman.

Unfortunately though, a stress fracture (tibia) put pay to further matches and hampered much of his 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons. Nevertheless, upon his return he has since played 6 NSW Futures League matches – taken 17 wickets at 22.82 including best figures of 6-111.

Earlier this season, he was named 12th Man for NSW in Sheffield Shield games against Victoria and South Australia. He has also represented Australian XI sides against the touring Indians (0-37) and Bangladeshi’s (2-35 and 2-23) this summer. Conway continues to shine in the Sydney Grade Competition with 16 wickets at 21.25 heading into the final month of the season.

The tall speedster has recently signed to play a season abroad in 2015 for Derbyshire Premier League club Ticknall. He hopes to utilise his UK Ancestral visa for County 2nd XI opportunities, before returning to Sydney and hopefully a first-class debut in 2015/16.
