Winsley recruit Aussie batsman Alain Hewett - 16/03/15

Alain HewettWEST OF ENGLAND PREMIER LEAGUE club Winsley have signed Australian Alain Hewett for their 2015 season.

Hewett (23) is a British Passport holding batsman playing for Northern Districts in the South Australian Grade Competition.

Courtesy of his sheer weight of runs in the lower grades, Hewett has earned first grade honours this summer in a side that features State players Mark Cosgrove, Chris Duval and Lancashire overseas import Alex Davies.

Hewett has batted predominantly in the middle-order (5-6) for the first-grade side, albeit much of his success has come from the opening spot (1,513 runs at 39.82), particularly in the C Grade, where he has scored a large percentage of his runs, including 4 of his 6 grade hundreds (140, 137, 122, 118*, 105, 125) to date.

Hewett enjoyed a break-through season in 2011/12 hitting 2 centuries en-route to the club run award (387 runs at 96.75 in the C Grade).

The following season, the trend continued, topping the charts again, this time with 382 runs at 54.56 with another century in the third tier. Hewett struck his fifth grade century in 2013/14 to average 47 in C Grade, but played predominantly in B Grade averaging 24.86.

His exploits have been rewarded with elevation to Northern Districts’ top flight for the current season.

Hewett is eager to cement his spot in Northern Districts' top team, so is keen to impress during his maiden stint abroad in 2015.
