Wintering Wicks set for Wokingham summer - 03/01/15

Matthew WicksWOKINGHAM have secured the services of Australian quick Matthew Wicks for the 2015 season.

Wicks (24) who is currently wintering in the UK, will join the Thames Valley League club early in the New Year to build for their promotion push in 2015.

The Australian seamer has previously spent two seasons in the UK, firstly for Redditch in Worcestershire (2011) then last summer for Stone SP in Staffordshire (2014).

He was an instrumental figure in Stone SP’s successful 2014 campaign, with the Aussie quick taking 57 wickets, including four 5-wicket hauls and best of 7-47 to help the club to the North Staffs and South Cheshire Premier League title.

In his native Australia, Wicks has also enjoyed tremendous success, both in club and representative cricket. Playing for Wallsend District in the strong Newcastle competition, he has taken 151 wickets at 20.85 over 99 matches to date.

He’s also been a handy contributor in the middle-lower order with his hard-striking capabilities yielding 1,152 runs at 20.21.

His exploits at club level have culminated with various representative honours, to include selection in the Australian Capital Territories (ACT) squad in 2012/13.

He has also been a regular for the Newcastle Senior side that plays in the strongest county cricket zone in Australia.

Wokingham are hoping their new Aussie recruit will make a big impact in the top tier of the Thames Valley League in 2015.
