Wivenhoe wrap up CD Stags' Dean Robinson - 05/12/14

Dean Robinson WIVENHOE TOWN have signed former New Zealand Under-19 and Central Stags batsman Dean Robinson.

Robinson (24) is a batting prodigy who represented the New Zealand Under-19s and is currently on contract with the star-studded Central Districts Stags for the 2014/15 domestic season.

The tall right-hander shot to prominence playing alongside the likes of Kane Williamson, Jimmy Neesham, Doug Bracewell and Sussex star Craig Cachopa whilst opening the batting for New Zealand against England in July/August 2008.

He has since played 8 first-class, 5 list-A and 1 Twenty20 matches for the Stags and is hoping to feature for Central Districts in the second half of the 2014/15 domestic summer.

Robinson joins Wivenhoe after two successful summers with Shropshire Premier League Quatt (2008-09). Before his NZ Under-19 commitments, he struck 458 runs at 38.16, but then returned in 2009 to top the Shropshire Premier League run charts hitting 1,157 runs at 82.64.

The kiwi, who recently earned 50 caps for Minor Association side Taranaki, will have big shoes to fill mind, after replacing Wivenhoe's Aussie star Matthew Condon from last season.

The ACT Comets, now Eastern Suburbs and NSW 2nd XI batsman churned out 826 runs at 59 to finish fourth on the Two Counties Division One run charts. Coincidently, Central Stags' team-mate and fellow CricX client Dane Cleaver topped the charts with a record-breaking 1,173 runs at 55.86.
