Dinesh Salunkhe (34) is a leg-spin bowling sensation who topped the Sussex Premier Cricket League wicket charts in 2016 playing for Ifield with an incredible 78 poles at 11.12 and 10 five wicket hauls. He was, quite simply, un-playable at times with a season strike rate of 23.23 and economy of 2.87. Salunkhe, who also batted in the middle order for Ifield, also weighed in with 342 runs at 28.50.

It was the Indian bowling all-rounder's second season abroad, following a season in Leicestershire, on scholarship with the County where he also featured in 8 league matches for Narborough and Littlethorpe (287 runs and 28 wickets), before returning home to a contract with both Air India and the Rajasthan Royals.

Salunke initially shot to fame when he was chosen as “Man of the Series” in the first season of Cricket Star, India's first-ever cricket talent-hunting reality television show. He then made six appearances for the victorious Royals in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Salunkhe impressed with the bat on debut, scoring 26 runs. He kept up a steady average in the lower order, though he was only twice called up to bowl, capturing just one wicket, albeit that of Mahela Jayawardene.

Royals captain Shane Warne heaped praise on Salunkhe, who along with Ravindra Jadeja stated “they are going to be superstars of the future”. Unfortunately, Salunkhe was axed by the Royals for the 2009 season, but was named as a “probable” for the strong Mumbai Ranji Trophy side, before making way for Indian internationals.

Salunkhe also took the wickets of Ben Stokes and Gary Ballance during an England Performance Programme tour match against the DY Patil Sports Academy in December 2012.

Whilst he has not featured at first-class level, Salunke is a stand-out performer, as he proved in the Sussex League last season. The Indian star now seeks a return abroad for the 2017 season. A highly recommended all-rounder - one who will no doubt be a sought after acquisition for next summer.
