Jacques Viljoen (21) is a high-class prospect from Pretoria who enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Northern Premier League in 2015/16. He scored 519 runs at 28.13 and took 33 wickets at 18.42, to finish as one of the leading all-rounder's in the League.

However, at the mid-way point of the season, Viljoen was near the top of the MVP charts (3rd). He was heading the wicket charts (24 poles at 14.67 including two 5-wicket hauls and best bowling of 6-22) and was only 30 runs from the top of the run charts (373 runs at 46.63 including a brilliant 154). Given his success, Vijoen is currently pushing first-class honours with Northerns.

The chart topping all-rounder has become an integral member of Police Cricket Club since the age of 16. He has played in the top flight in a club that comprises five former provincial players, in a league flooded with first-class cricketers (the majority of whom he is currently out-performing).

The leg-spin bowling all-rounder has previously featured for Affies High School 1st XI. Affies has been one of the most successful cricket schools in recent history, having been rated the “top school” in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013. The school has produced a raft of international players, most recently including Jacques Rudolph, Faf du Plessis, Kruger van Wyk, Neil Wagner and AB de Villiers. Viljoen represented Affies in the top tier of every age group and played 18 1st XI games in 2013. He racked up 630 runs at 35.50 from number three and took 26 wickets.

Viljoen is quite a talent, who has been coached by several notable player/coaches including Harry Shapiro, Maurice Aronstam and Andre Seymour. The all-rounder also enjoyed a record-breaking summer in the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League in 2014. Playing for Northchurch as their 2nd XI overseas player, the South African broke a whole host of league and club records in what was a magnificent maiden stint abroad.

Playing in Division 7, he churned out the most runs in a single season (1,060) with the second highest average (88.33). He scored the most hundreds (6) and struck the highest league score (184). He set the highest percentage of team runs (41%) and most boundaries in a single season – hitting 206 fours and 37 sixes.

Viljoen also broke numerous Northchurch records to include most 2nd XI wickets in 2014 (31 at 21.25), most runs across all formats (1,252), highest average (69.55), most centuries (6), highest percentage of team runs (39%), highest strike-rate (123) and most boundaries – 230 fours and 42 sixes. He also finished third on the wicket charts (33 at 22.03).

The South African all-rounder, fresh from his dominant season in Pretoria, returned to the UK in 2016. Unfortunately for Vijoen, he under-performed for Pennine League club Monton and Weaste, only scoring 187 runs at 17 and barely featuring with the ball. Therefore, given this, he is eager to return in 2017 to make amends and is someone we'd strongly consider.
