Nick Bertus (23) is a prodigious talent who represented New South Wales through the age-groups and is currently into his seventh season in the Sydney Grade Competition for Parramatta District. A left-hand top-order batsman wicket-keeper, Bertus boasts an outstanding record at both age-group representative and senior club cricket.

Prior to the 2016/17 season, Bertus has scored 4,582 runs at 32.73 (6 x 100s, 22 x 50s) over 156 Sydney Grade matches. Alongside is Grade exploits, Bertus has enjoyed a string of success for New South Wales representative sides.

In chronological order, in 2008/09 he scored 228 runs at 45.60 for NSW High Schools and was selected for the Australian Under-17 High Schools team to tour the Caribbean in Nov/Dec 2009. The following season he topped the NSW Under-17s averages during the National Tournament (253 runs at 26.14) in a side that included Blues’ stars Pat Cummins and Kurtis Patterson. He was also selected to skipper the NSW Country High Schools and made the NSW Under-19s City squad.

In 2010/11, alongside a tremendous grade season (493 runs at 38 with a top score of 147), Bertus racked up two centuries en-route to 298 runs at 99.33 in the NSW Schoolboys Championships. He then finished third on the run averages for NSW (behind Australian T20 star Sean Abbott and Tasmania/Australia A batsman Jordan Silk) during the National Under-19 Tournament.

Courtesy of his success across all levels, Bertus was selected to play two Futures League T20 matches for NSW in December 2011 and impressed, striking a 22-ball 35 against Tasmania Under-23s. He was also NSW’s second leading run-scorer in the National Under-19 Tournament (227 runs at 37.83).

Another productive season followed in 2012/13, racking up 489 runs at 31 in first-grade with a highest score of 108*, before a prolific 2013/14 season which saw him break the record for most runs in a Poidevin-Gray (PG) Shield season belting 515 runs at 103. He was selected in the NSW extended squad and played a trial match for Sydney Thunder.

In 2014/15, his consistency continued scoring 514 runs at 30.20 in first grade cricket before heading overseas to play for Macclesfield in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League. He finished the season 9th on the ECB Premier run charts scoring 697 runs at 41 in what was a successful maiden stint aborad in 2015.

In 2015/16, the trend continued with a further 632 runs at 42.13 with 2 centures at Grade level, but his second, run-filled stint with Macclesfield (761 runs at 63.42). 

Bertus boasts an outstanding career to date and seems destined for first-class honours in future. To compliment his playing skills, Bertus is also an accredited CA level 2 coach, employed by Cricket NSW and part owner of The Hills Cricket Academy. He boasts extensive coaching experience, working for Tri Force Sports, St. Ignatius College Riverview and of course, Cricket NSW.
