Suranjith Silva (36) is an experienced leg spin bowling all-rounder with 15 years first-class experience. He has taken 379 first class wickets at 24.01 in addition to 2,488 runs at 20.56 with the bat. Silva was for many years in contention for national honours. He skippered the likes of Jayawardene, Sangakarra and Vaas for Ceylan Bank and was named in the Sri Lankan squad in the 90s. He has developed a great knowledge of the game and is an exceptional player/coach in English League cricket where he's spent numerous summers in recent seasons. He played two seasons in the Lincolnshire County League for Louth taking 56 league wickets at 8.3 in addition to 491 runs at 49 in 2006, then returned for two further seasons with Checkley (2007) in the North Staffs South Cheshire League taking 21 league wickets at 18.95 and scoring 245 runs at 24.5 and Surrey Championship side Old Whitgiftians (2008) taking 50 league wickets at 15.14 (one of the Championship's top wicket-takers) in addition to 335 runs at 27.92. Silva took a season off in 2009, but returned in decisive fashion in 2010 for Flitwick taking an incredible 106 wickets at 9.68 in addition to 827 runs at 51.69 in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire League competitions. He subsequently returned to Flitwick for a second season last year, but due to visa complications only played 14 matches – still taking an impressive 43 wickets at 10.42 and averaging 51 with the bat. Since retiring from the first-class game in 2009, he has spent the past two seasons plying his trade in Melbourne, Australia. Turning out for Springvale South Cricket Club, he has been one of the turf competitions leading performers – in 2010/11 he scored an undefeated century amongst 215 runs at 35.83 and took 21 scalps at 13.19. Silva is now seeking a return to the UK in 2012 and would be a fantastic asset for any club. He is highly respected player/coach who comes with glowing references.
