Fred Klaassen (22) is a Dutch Passport holding seamer seeking who has enjoyed two excellent season's abroad in 2014-15. In his first summer, he excelled in the strong East Anglian Premier League for Norwich taking 30 wickets at 21.06 to including best figures of 6-55. He also showed his ability with the bat in the lower order, producing several useful knocks to average 16.63.

He followed-up with a stellar season in Scotland for East Kilbride, taking 26 wickets at 14.15 to finish as one of the best bowlers in the Western Premier Division. He also scored 195 runs at 21.67 including a high of 85*. His success culminated with selection for the WDCU XI who played T20 matches against the touring Canada and Netherlands sides.

Standing a towering 6ft 4”, Klaassen is a left-arm opening bowler who is now eager to return to the UK once again in 2016, fresh from his overseas exploits. He is a player who comes highly recommended by former England batsman Nick Compton: “he would do a top job… hits great areas and would take a lot of wickets in club cricket”.

Originally from Auckland, Klaassen was the recipient of the Barakat Cup for the highest aggregate of wickets for the Sacred Heart College 1st XI in 2009 and 2010. He skippered the College and broke into the Auckland Premier Grade Competition for Cornwall in 2010, whilst also acting as a net bowler for the touring Pakistani’s.

In 2011/12, he moved to Dunedin and has since starred for Green Island Seniors subsequently gaining selection for the Otago A training squad, whilst being a regular net bowler for the Volts. In 2012/13, he continued to act as a net bowler for the Volts, but also featured for both New Zealand and the touring England side. Klaassen also featured for the Otago A side in two fixtures against Tasmania A in January 2013.

Over the past two seasons, he's continued to play for Cornwall. Last summer  he picked up 26 wickets at 18.23 across all formats, including 15 wickets at 16 in the Auckland Premier - 2-Day Competition, in a Cornwall side with notable first-class players Michael Guptill-Bunce, Matthew Quinn (Auckland Aces), Michael Thornely (Sussex/Leics), Rob Nicol and Tarun Nethula (Blackcaps).

Whilst known for his left-arm seam, Klaassen is a handy lower-middle order batsman, as he's proved during his last two UK league stints. He is now looking to play cricket in Holland next year, utilising his Passport to play as a local player. No doubt he will be in high demand, as clearly he's bowler with a proven record.
