Dean Robinson (27) is a batting prodigy who represented the New Zealand Under-19s and has played 25 domestic matches for the Central Districts Stags. An opening batsman of some pedigree, Robinson was unfortunately overlooked for a Stags domestic contract in 2016/17 having spent two prior seasons on contract. He is therefore eager to impress for his provincial side (Taranaki) and Central Districts 'A' this summer to push for re-selection.

The tall right-hander shot to prominence playing alongside the likes of Kane Williamson, Jimmy Neesham, Doug Bracewell and Sussex star Craig Cachopa whilst opening the batting for New Zealand against England in July/August 2008. He has since played alongside a host of international stars for the Stags, most notably Jamie How, Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor.

Robinson made his first-class debut in November 2011 and was a key component of the Stags’ successful Ford Trophy campaign in 2011/12 hitting 240 runs at 80, including scores of 130* against the Canterbury Wizards whilst chasing 291 then 63 in the final against the Auckland Aces in a side comprising Blackcaps’ bowlers Mitch McClenaghan, Chris Martin and Bruce Martin.

Unfortunately though, opportunities have been limited since, with Robinson not featuring for the Stags in 2012/13 and only 9 further first-class matches over the past three seasons (5 during the 2015/16 season).

The talented batsman has returned to the northern shores for the 2017 season as he was resigned by North Runcton and he has not disappointed for the Norfolk club. In 17 league games to date he has racked up 953 runs with a majestic 143* against a strong Sprowston cricket club with a stunning average of 64.18 with two centuries.

In his previous successful summers he has plied his trade for Quatt (2008-09), Wivenhoe Town (2015) and North Runcton (2016). Before his NZ Under-19 commitments, he struck 458 runs at 38.16, but then returned in 2009 to top the Shropshire Premier League run charts for Quatt hitting 1,157 runs at 82.64 whilst also taking some useful wickets.

Robinson returned in 2015 and dominated the Two Counties Cricket Championship run charts for Wivenhoe Town. He struck 1,043 runs at 69.53, including 5 hundreds, a 94 and highest score of 193*. Unsurprisingly, the trend continued last season with another chart topping 1,019 runs at 78.38 for North Runcton in the Norfolk Alliance (Premier Division).

Robinson is a star overseas player, seeking a return next summer and is someone who we strongly recommend for any league club next summer.
