Jonathan Vandiar (28) is an explosive left-hand batsman playing for the Titans and Northerns in South Africa. A prolific run-scorer, Vandiar boasts a tremendous domestic record. In 236 matches, he has scored 8,500 plus runs with 15 centuries and 48 fifties across all formats. He has particularly excelled in first-class cricket with 5,037 runs at 35.22 – the majority of these runs at Franchise level for the Dolphins (759 runs at 31.62), Lions (1,637 runs at 33.40) and more recently, the Titans (648 runs at 27).

A schoolboy prodigy, Vandiar shot to prominence playing 19 matches for the South African Under-19’s. In December 2007, he struck a brilliant 103 on debut in an Under-19 Test against Bangladesh before making waves during the 2008 ICC Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia. He topped South Africa’s run charts (186 runs at 37.20) in a side that included current national players Reeza Hendricks, Wayne Parnell and Rilee Rossouw. He went on to skipper his country in 5 Youth ODI’s against the touring England side in January 2009, where he again impressed.

After two dominant seasons at first-class level, where he averaged 51.83 (2008/09) and 39.00 (2009/10), he was rewarded with a South African A call-up in May 2010. Vandiar enjoyed success in his 9 outings for the A side during the next 18 months, with the highlight a 57-ball 60 in a 123-run opening partnership with Jacques Rudolph against a star-studded Australian A attack comprising Trent Copeland, Mitchell Starc, John Hastings, Mitch Marsh and Nathan Lyon.

However, he suffered a dip in form in 2010/11 averaging 18.16 over 13 first-class innings and hasn’t featured for the ‘A’ side since. Nevertheless, he has since become one of the most consistent and reliable performers on the domestic circuit, with season highs of 624 runs at 39 (2012/13), 530 runs at 58.88 (2013/14), 464 runs at 42.18 (2015/16) and 615 runs at 43.92 (2018/19).

Vandiar has also excelled in Holland over the past few years. He set the Hoofdklasse alight in his maiden stint in 2015 for HCC, powering his side to promotion courtesy of his run scoring exploits (840 runs at 76.36 to finish top of the league run charts). The trend continued in the top flight (Topklasse) in 2016 and 2017, hitting a further 640 runs at 58.18 and a chart-topping 1,139 runs at 67 in 2017.

Given his success for HCC in recent years, Vandiar is now eager to return abroad in 2019. Whilst open to the UK, he prefers the option for a Netherlands return, but at this stage is open to all options.
