Usman Malvi (35) is a right-arm quick who played for the powerhouse Mumbai side for neigh on a decade. He made his first-class debut in 2002/03 and proceeded to play 45 matches for Mumbai before he called time on his professional career in 2010.

During this period, Malvi picked up 80 wickets, including 53 at 30.01 in first-class cricket. He was also a handy lower-order batsman who averaged 16.94 including a career best of 56.

Perhaps his finest moment came in January 2008 when playing for a Mumbai Cricket Association XI against the touring England Lions. The speedster took 7 wickets – 4-41 (15) and 3-34 (14) including the notable scalps of Carberry, Trott and Yardy in both innings.

That said, he’d previously taken several international scalps, in the form of Ashraful against the Bangladeshi’s back in 2001 then Atapattu and the great Sangakkara during a one-day match in 2005 against the Sri Lankan’s during his spell of 2-55 (10) for a President’s XI.

Malvi has also been a stand-out performer during seven previous UK stints. He spent three summers in the Devon Premier League for Torquay (1,125 runs at 33.09 and 84 wickets at 22.33) before heading north for the 2010 and 2012 seasons with Stayley (Saddleworth League).

During his opening season, he scored over 1,000 runs and took 70 wickets, then backed up with 850 runs and 62 wickets on his return. In 2014 he continued to impress, this time in the strong Drakes Huddersfield League hitting 383 runs and taking 72 wickets for Kirkburton before a season in the Durham County League for Bill Quay in 2015, where he excelled once again (697 runs at 49.79 and 41 wickets at 21.51).

The Indian star is now seeking a return to Northern shores once again in 2017 and clearly, given his success, he'll be a sought after commodity for next summer.
