Johnathon Dalton (22) is an exciting opening batsman on contract with the South Australian Redbacks. The run machine made his Sheffield Shield debut in March 2017, hitting scores of 40 and 71 against Tasmania. He then followed up with a gritty 32 (from 107 balls) in the final against a Victorian attack that featured James Pattinson, Chris Tremain, Dan Christian, Fawad Ahmed and Jon Holland.

Dalton played 8 Sheffield Shield matches the following, 2017/18, season but only managed 312 runs at 19.50, despite fifties against New South Wales (64) and Queensland (53). He has now featured in 10 first-class matches, albeit none in the current 2018/19 season. However, his club form (392 runs at 56) suggests a return to the Redbacks top-order is on the cards.

Dalton has, at the point of writing, scored 3,603 runs at 36.03 for Kensington District in the SACA Grade Competition. He has also excelled for South Australia through the age-groups and at Futures League level. He boasts 7 Grade centuries - 3 of which coming during his barnstorming 2016/17 season (869 runs at 86.90), which culminated with his Redbacks contract.

At age-group representative level, Dalton starred for South Australia during the Under-17 (2011/12) and Under-19 (2014/15) National Championships. During the former, he finished second to Redbacks batsman Kelvin Smith on the State's run charts (195 runs at 32.50), then averaged 22.14 at the Under-19 carnival in January 2015.

A player who comes highly recommended, Dalton is now set to embark on his second UK stint in 2019 following his maiden season with Hursley Park (Division 1 of the Southern Electric Premier League) in 2014 (299 runs at 27.18 including a highest score of 119 over his short 11-match stint). He will turn out for Vauxhall Mallards for their East Anglian Premier League campaign.
