Hancke von Rauenstein (36) is a former professional cricketer now actively pursuing a coaching career. Since the conclusion of his first-class career (2009/10), and before his move to current club Wanderers (2015/16), he acted as player/coach for Wits University in Johannesburg. Von Rauenstein also performed a similar role in the season just gone in England, for Hertfordshire League club Chipperfield Clarendon.

As a player, von Rauenstein enjoyed an accomplished three-year first-class career. He played 38 domestic matches for Free State, skippering the province on occasions throughout. Over his 21 first-class matches, he scored 971 runs at 31.32 with two centuries and five fifties. In 17 List-A matches, he tallied a further 428 runs at 30.57 with a further three half-centuries. Von Rauenstein was also a handy leg-spinner who, across the two formats picked up 26 wickets – averaging 20.16 with best bowling figures of 6-21 in one-day cricket.

Von Rauenstein also spent five productive seasons in the UK. Firstly for Sibton Park in Division 1 of the Kent Premier League (2007) scoring 670 runs at 44.67 (one of the leagues leading run-scorers) and in 2008 for newly promoted Spencer (Surrey Championship ECB Premier League) scoring 402 runs at 26.8.

Over the next two seasons, he enjoyed more success. Initially in 2009 for Scottish National Cricket League club Poloc in the Scottish National Cricket League (558 league runs at 50.73 and taking 17 wickets at 25.53) followed by a prolific summer in Northern Ireland. 1,281 runs at 53.40 including a highest score of 195 alongside 36 wickets at 25.30 for Glendermott in the North West Premier League.

After a 5-year absence, Von Rauenstein returned to Northern shores in 2016 and acted as player/coach for Chipperfield Clarendon. He excelled and is now considering a return to the UK once again in 2017.
