Minhaj Jalill (23) is an exciting top-order batting prospect playing for Saracens Sports Club in the top tier (A) of Sri Lankan first-class cricket. He is a proven run-scorer in a side that also features the likes of Saliya Saman and CricX stars Gamindu Kanishka, Ranitha Liyanarachchi and Roshan Jayatissa.

He joined Saracens last summer, following a barnstorming 2016/17 season with Galle Cricket Club (358 runs at 35.80). He churned out 474 runs at 29.62, finishing as Saracens third leading run-scorer, narrowly behind Harsha Cooray and Kanishka. Jalill has hit his straps in first-class cricket over the past two seasons, having played solitary matches for Tamil Union and Athletic Club and Colombo Cricket Club in 2014/15 and 2015/16 respectively.

He was, however, destined for success, following a glittering junior career. He represented Thurstan College and skippered the side in Kavindu Kulasekara's SL U19 absence, during his prolific 2013/14 season. Jalill became the third player in history to score 1,000 plus runs in an All Island Under-19 Division One season (the others, Nikzy Ahmed and CricX client Shanuka Dulaj). His 1,094 runs at 54.70 including 4 centuries, 7 fifties and culminated with the "Batsman of the Year" title.

Whilst bowling opportunities have been limited in first-class cricket, at schoolboy level, Jalill was a genuine all-rounder. His off-spin yielded U19 season figures of 23 wickets at 15.90 (2012/13) and 26 wickets at 29.96 (2013/14).

Jalill has now converted his promise as a junior, into performance in the senior ranks. He spent the 2018 season plying his trade in the UK for Devon Premier League side Bovey Tracey. He struck 515 runs at 34.33 and took 15 wickets at 44.33, but also impressed in our CricX (Overseas v English) back at Buckingham Town in August, top scoring with 59 and bowling some useful overs with his off spin.

The talented Sri Lankan batting all-rounder is set to return to Northern shores, once again in 2019 and benefits from not only the UK experience, but ECB coaching qualifications, for his return trip.
