Alind Naidu (26) burst onto the first-class scene as an immensely talented 16-year-old batsman and immediately impressed. In his debut match for Vidharba, he hit an undefeated hundred (118*) against Uttar Pradesh. However, despite his debut performance, he only played his second match 11-months later against Railways in which he scored a brisk 68. In February 2001, he represented the Indian under-19 side against the touring England under-19s in 4 Tests and 3 ODI’s. The following season (2002/03), Naidu became a regular figure in the Vidharba line-up, hitting 466 runs at 42.36 including another century (118). He developed his pace bowling over the following few seasons and the 2004/05 season resulted 10 wickets at 15.80 in addition to averaging 44.50 in the top order. Naidu has since been a steady performer and impressed in the 2007/08 season taking 11 wickets at 17.00 including a best bowling of 4-18 and scored 356 runs at 39.55 scoring his third hundred along the way. Naidu is now into his tenth first-class season for Vidarbha (which he captains) in India’s Ranji Trophy first-class competition. He is looking to return to the UK in 2010 after a successful first season’s league cricket for Tudhoe in the Durham County League in 2006. He represents an outstanding all-round option for any UK league side.
