Brett Pelser
Playing Role: RH Top Order Bat / RA Medium Pace
Coaching Qualifications: Cricket South Africa Level 2 (UKCC Level 2 Equivalent)
Major Teams: North West, Gauteng Under-19, Northerns Academy, Highveld Lions Academy
Brett Pelser (25) was one of the stand-out performers in the 2009/10 South African domestic cricket. In eleven first-class matches, he racked up 1003 runs (a tally that included four hundreds and a career-best 163*) and enjoyed an astonishing average of 100.30. Pelser finished fourth in the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition run-charts and now boasts the enviouis first-class figures of 1,384 runs at 69.20, not to mention 513 List-A runs averaging 34.20. The talented right-hand batsman initially burst onto the domestic scene making his debut for North West in October 2007 but was then dropped after two matches. He remarkably returned to the fray in the 2008/09 season as captain of North West and lead his side to the Provincial Three-Day Final. His performances in both formats were impressive scoring 360 runs at 51.42 and 227 runs at 56.71 at first-class and one-day level respectively. Pelser had previously represented Gauteng through the age-groups and attended the Gauteng and Northerns Cricket Academies. In 2008, he attended and skippered the Highveld Lions Academy prior to gaining the captains role for North West. Pelser is a dependable top order batsman who, although under-used at domestic level, is a very useful medium pacer. He was one of the stand-out players at Premier level in Pretoria for CBC Old Boys before heading to play Premier League cricket for Kosh & Potch Dorp in Potchefstroom. Pelser has also played extensively in the UK and is currently into his fifth season. His maiden season was for Keyham and Buckfastleigh in 2003 in the Devon League (577 runs at 42 and 33 wickets at 17.4) then in 2005 for Philadelphia in the North East Premier (634 runs at 33.36 and 10 wickets at 38.20). He followed up with consecutive seasons in the Durham Senior League for Burnmoor hitting 411 runs at 31 and taking 58 wickets at 14.45 in 2006 and an impressive 1,157 runs at 72 and 40 wickets at 16.66 in 2007. This season, he continues to churn out the runs for new-club Leyland in the strong Northern Premier League. To compliment his playing ability, he is also a qualified and practising coach who has extensive junior coaching experience in both England and South Africa.
