CricX can confirm that Frinton-on-Sea Cricket Club have signed professional Troy Johnson as cover for final month of their 2023 East Anglian Premier League campaign.
A talented right-handed batter, Johnson made his Firebirds debut in January 2019, and was rewarded his maiden State contract ahead of the 2020/21 season.
He enjoyed a run-filled summer, dominating both the Plunket Shield (291 runs at 72.75), and Ford Trophy (370 runs at 41.11) competitions, respectively.
Johnson replicated his form the following summer (2021/22), and courtesy of his exploits (389 runs at 55.57 and 281 runs at 40.14 in FC/List A) was awarded Cricket Wellington’s “Batter” and “Ford Trophy Player’s Player” of the Year awards. Last summer, Johnson suffered a run a form in red ball cricket, but continued to shine in white ball, where he was Wellington’s Ford Trophy skipper.
The talented Wellingtonian is looking for another big 2023/24 summer to push for Blackcaps’ honours, and in view towards this, is set to play a short stint for Frinton-on-Sea (East Anglia Premier League) throughout August.
This season will be Johnson’s second in England following a remarkable 2017 season in the West of England Premier League for North Perrott where he racked up 1,320 runs at 69.47, and 47 wickets at 13.13 with his off spin.
We wish Troy & everyone at Frinton-on-Sea all the best for the rest of the season.
