Leigh is delighted to announce the signing of talented kiwi wicket-keeper batter Kate Gaging for their 2023 Cheshire Womens Cricket League campaign.

Gaging is a fantastic prospect playing for the Central Districts Hinds in New Zealand domestic cricket.

Born in England (Ashford, Kent), Gaging emigrated to New Zealand as a toddler and started playing cricket from an early age. She became a star performer through the Nelson and Central Districts age groups, acting as vice-captain for the CD U19s.

In February 2021 she would make her Hinds debut in the Women’s One Day Competition and has since become a first-team regular.

An incredibly versatile cricketer, Gaging is foremost known as a powerful batter who keeps wicket. That said, despite being a self-proclaimed “part-time” spinner, she has proved a very useful off-spinner in recent years.

Playing for the Hinds, she bats in the middle order and dons the gloves in a side including several White Ferns bowlers. In Men’s first and second-grade cricket, she has often opened the batting and due to this experience has become fearless against pace and stands up to all bar a few women’s seam bowlers with the gloves.

Gaging is a serious prospect, and former Hinds Emerging Player of the Year, who aspires to break into the White Ferns in the future.

In view of her development, she is set to return to the UK to play for Leigh in the Cheshire Womens Cricket League in 2023.
