Sandal has pulled off a coup with the signing of South African superstar Daniel Smith for their 2023 Bradford League campaign.

Smith is an incredible prospect playing for Western Province in South African domestic cricket.

A left-hand opening batsman and dynamic wicket-keeper, Smith represented Western Province through the age groups, dominating the run charts.

At Coke Week he struck 255 runs at 64, then belted Cobras to the Cubs title with 303 runs at 75.75. His exploits culminated with South African Under-19 selection, where he skippered the side.

At schoolboy level, Smith broke all sorts of records for SACS High School. He played over 100 games, skippered the 1st XI for 2 years, and averaged 65 in his final 3 seasons.

Smith made a successful transition into senior club cricket for Claremont (WPCA), striking 389 runs at 64.83 in 2019/20. This culminated with Western Province selection for the T20 Blitz, and CSA Provincial Competitions.

Post-COVID, Smith broke into the Western Provincial side for the CSA 4-Day Series (Division 1). He excelled. After scores of 43 and 83 on his debut against Northerns (Nov 2021), he would go on to rack up 350 runs at 58.33 in his 4 matches, including his maiden century (156 runs from 236 balls) in his final outing against North West (March 2022).

Smith, who is now into his 2022/23 summer with WEP is looking to progress in the game and as part of his development is set to join Yorkshire-based club, Sandal, for their 2023 Bradford League campaign.
