Thongsbridge is thrilled to announce the re-signing of Brandon Mavuta for their 2023 campaign.
Brandon Mavuta is one of Zimbabwe’s hottest spin bowling prospects, who has already featured in 19 matches for the national side across the three formats.
In November 2018, the leg-spinning all-rounder enjoyed a stellar Test debut against Bangladesh taking figures of 4/21 in the second innings. Earlier in the year, he had already made his ODI and T20I debuts. It’s fair to say, Mavuta has a big future ahead of him, and the potential to dominate the big stage.
The youngster initially shot to prominence by playing for Zimbabwe at the ICC Under-19 World Cup early in 2016. A month later, he would make his first-class debut in Zimbabwe’s Logan Cup competition.
Mavuta headed to England during the 2016 season and dominated for Thongsbridge, topping the Drakes Huddersfield League wicket charts and contributing his fair share of valuable runs.
Early in 2017, he made his Zimbabwe A debut, playing a List A match against Afghanistan, before topping the 2017/18 Logan Cup and Pro 50 wicket charts for the Rising Stars. In July, and September 2017, he would make his ODI, and T20I debut’s respectively, and in October earned selection for Durban Heat for South Africa’s inaugural Mzansi Super League T20 tournament. Mavuta would then go on to make a barnstorming Test debut the following month.
Unfortunately, COVID struck at the wrong time for Mavuta just as he was starting to make a major impact at national level. Nevertheless, the resumption of cricket, and the return to the Zimbabwean squad, particularly in T20 cricket, has seen further notable performances suggesting Mavuta has a huge future in the game.
The leg spinner, who boasts over 200 domestic wickets, is also a more than useful batter, with a century (104*) and three fifties in first-class cricket.
He is looking to progress in the game and whilst he has targeted Franchise opportunities in future, he is initially set to return to Thongsbridge for a second Huddersfield League stint in 2023.
