Abidullah (‘Abid’) Taniwal is an incredible prospect coming through the Afghanistan ranks.
A genuine left-arm quick and explosive middle-order batter, Taniwal has all the makings of a future superstar.
Despite his tender age, the all-rounder has already clocked up 19 domestic matches and has produced glimpses of what’s to come.
A former Afghanistan U19 star, Taniwal burst onto the domestic circuit in some fashion bagging figures of 5-73 (27) on his first-class (Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day Tournament) debut (April 2019). He has since gone on to take 16 wickets at 25.75 in 6 first-class matches.
With the bat, Taniwal has serious potential. A clean, and often brutal striker of the ball, whilst in the infancy of his career he already boasts career bests of 43 (FC), 34 (List A), and 30* (T20) from the middle-lower order. It’s envisaged he’ll end up batting significantly higher in domestic cricket, particularly in the white ball format.
The Afghan talent is a player that comes recommended as someone destined for the “big time”, and as part of his development headed to the UK in 2023.
Playing for Bedminster in the strong West of England Premier League campaign, after a slow start he started to perform with both bat and ball. He showed serious glimpses of his undoubted talent.
Moving forward, Taniwal will be keen to continue plying his trade abroad and it's envisaged he'll be a stand-out in Franchise cricket in future.
* For 2024, Taniwal is not available for the UK given he failed to complete his ECB Core Coach.
